Police Officials Release Woman Wanted for Question in DPS Shooting

Police Officials have stated that they have found and then released a woman who was wanted for questioning that involved the shooting of an Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer in the Phoenix area.  However, there were no arrests made. Police are still searching for the suspects, Ramon Bueno and Danny Vargas.

The officer is doing very well and the forty – four year old is expected to fully recover according to Officer Holmes. There are several agencies working together in this investigation, including: DPS, ATF (Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms), and the U. S. Marshals Office.

The investigation has been going on for the five suspects after a routine traffic stop on Wednesday morning at a local Knights Inn motel which was near the interstate. The traffic stop ended with gunfire. According to Officer Holmes, the suspects that were in the vehicle fired at the officer that made the initial traffic stop which was around three o’clock in the morning. They were driving a 2008 Mercury Sable that had dark tinted windows.

The officer then approached the vehicle and talked briefly with the passengers. After his chat with the passengers he walked to the back to the patrol car and waited for backup. When backup arrived, they then tried to approach the suspects vehicle. That is when Mr. Ramon allegedly fired a weapon at the officers.

DPS Officer Shot

The DPS Officer was shot in the face and then the suspects quickly fled the scene. The two officers that came as backup quickly returned the fire at the vehicle and then began to try to help the injured DPS Officer. According to Officer Holmes, the suspects drove around the hotel and then approached the officers once again and started the shooting again. Officer Holmes called it a “desperate act” to shoot at the on-scene officers.

The Mercury Sable was found abandoned at a home near 29th Avenue and Pima. The vehicle wasn’t reported stolen. No other information was given about the vehicle or home where it was found.

Holmes Statement:

I had no idea what was going on, when I got there they told me that the car was involved in the shooting and it was a shock to me.
