Phoenix Struggles With Murders

Murder in Phoenix

Owning a family business has to be stressful. There’s a lot of hours that goes into a business and as well as a lot of together time that might not be good for some families. No matter what you shouldn’t murder your family. So before starting a venture, you might want to be sure that you all can stand to be around each other, even when things get stressful.

According to the police, five relatives have been found dead. This was due to a suspected murder/suicide in a Phoenix home. Police think that the fight was over the family’s limo business.

The officers say there were three of the brothers, their mother, and one of the men’s wife was all shot to death inside of the home. The police think that one of the brothers, fifty year old Driss Diaeddinn had shot the other four and then turned the gun to himself.

His brothers: thirty-eight year old, Reda Diaeddinn and fifty-six year old, Dodi Fayed were found dead in one area of the house.

The seventy-six year old mother, Kenza Benzakour and his sister in law, twenty-six year old MEriem Ben Yahia were also among those of the dead.

Family Shooting

Luckily his wife, a second female relative and two children managed to get away from the incident unharmed.

According to Sgt. Trent Crump, the victims were in an argument over the family owned business then the shooting began.

The family owns a Phoenix limousine company.

Luckily the suspect’s wife escaped with the two children, a three year old and an infant, and was able to call the police to report the incident. Cops heard the gunshots in the background when the woman was making the call to them.

The officers rushed to the scene and the house stayed barricaded for hours. Witnesses said that they could hear sounds of “muted gunshots” just an hour after the standoff began.

After an hour of waiting, a second female was able to escape the murder scene. She was “distraught” after her escaped and told the authorities that she was hiding in a bathroom.

The family had origins in Morocco so during the HOURS of standoff the police had used a megaphone and was speaking Arabic to try to communicate to anyone that might be alive or the suspect.

The SWAT team didn’t waste any time, they sent in robots to search it before the dogs and officers entered the home.

Police are doing a thorough search to see if the family had a history of domestic violence. Neighbors say that the family as “invisible”.

Hiring the Right Homicide Lawyer in Phoenix

Having a skilled homicide defense attorney is important in any criminal case, but it is even more critical in a murder case. To do so, a Phoenix Murder Defense Attorney must be prepared to effectively cross-examine the prosecution’s witnesses, including any expert witnesses.

Expert Witnesses

In some cases, a Phoenix Homicide Defense Attorney may need to use expert witnesses on behalf of the defendant to challenge forensic evidence, ballistics evidence and other scientific evidence presented by the prosecution. In addition to fighting your charges at trial (or seeking a case dismissal for lack of probable cause), we can also negotiate with the prosecution to seek a favorable plea agreement. A plea agreement might involve a plea to a lesser offense or an agreement on sentencing that will significantly reduce the penalties you face.

Homicide Defense Strategy

We will take the time to talk to witnesses, investigate what really happened in your case, understand what evidence is in the prosecution’s possession, look for holes in the prosecution’s case, and determine if the police violated your constitutional rights or made other critical errors that can be used to your advantage.

We are committed to raising a strong and comprehensive defense on your behalf. Depending on the facts of your case, the following defenses and strategies may be helpful:

  • Self-Defense

Phoenix Domestic Violence Cases

Phoenix Woman Pleads Guilty to Murder

You know, every couple fights. Sure, everyone feels like they could “shoot” their spouse but no one actually does it. Except for maybe one Phoenix woman. She pleaded guilty to second degree murder. She fatally shot her husband in their home.

Thirty-one year old, Amanda Lynn Miller told the Phoenix Police that she shot her thirty-six year old husband, Jesus Nevarez-Galindo. She was trying to leave their home as it was filling up with smoke from a fire. He had set the kitchen on fire.

Court documents showed that police counted seven wounds in the man’s body. Miller told the police that the situation began as an argument over financial issues and lack of food in the house broke out. Sure makes sense. Hungry. Let’s catch the kitchen on fire.

Apparently the couple had quite the history of domestic violence.

Woman Suffers From Sexual Abuse

A young woman of only eighteen years old has suffered from serious injures as she was beaten, burned, and sexually assaulted and forced to drink bleach. This was after she reportedly refused to sell drugs for a man.

Twenty-five year old, Johnel Henry Thomas has now been booked into jail for one count of each sexual assault as well as kidnapping, unlawful means of transportation, as well as six counts of aggravated assault.

The court documents stated that the victim was taken to Mr. Thomas’ apartment in West Phoenix. She was taken there by another female and possible suspect.

After she was in his apartment, Mr. Thomas allegedly beat her as well as tortured the poor young girl. She recieved a broken arm, smashed hands, burns all over her body from a hot knife and swords, burns from the bleach being poured over her as well as bruises all over her body from hammer blows.  This poor girl, I can’t imagine what she suffered.

Violence Reported

The report also said that the police had stated that the victim had still had a belt around her neck when she was found by the police officers. There were also marks on her neck, ankles and wrists from her being restrained. She was also sexually assaulted, which also caused even more injuries.

Luckily a neighbor saw Mr. Thomas and another man dragging the eighteen year old girl into the suspect’s apartment and heard her please for help. The neighbor called 911.

When the officers had arrived to the scene the front and back doors were open to the apartment. Thomas was later located by the police in a stolen vehicle.

According to the report, when Thomas had seen the officers, he fled the scene, naked and out the back door. The victim was also naked as she walked from the back door. She was walking to the front of the complex to find the officers for help.

Domestic Abuse

Police said that she was understandably hysterical. She was telling them about the suspect pouring bleach on her and making her drink it. Officers were able to pour some water on the young woman and tried to get the bleach out of her eyes and off of her body.

The victim was later taken to the hospital for treatment. She told the medical staff that she had been sexually assaulted and the staff has confirmed that her injures match what she said.

As the police searched the apartment, they found a number of knives as well as swords and empty bleach bottle as well as two hammers.

When Mr. Thomas was interviewed by the investigators, he had told them that a female friend had “assaulted the victim inside the apartment” . However, he did admit to “having sex” with the victim. Another man was also taken into custody. He had told the investigators that he was in the apartment during some of the assault, however after his arrest he denied participating.

Police have said that the victim had severe burns. She even had to have surgery for her broken arm.

Severe Stabbing in Phoenix

Police Arrest Man Involved in Phoenix Stabbing

Phoenix police arrested the husband of a woman who was found stabbed to death in her west Phoenix home and were preparing to submit murder charges against the man, Phoenix police said late Monday morning.

Police said Jaime Silerio-Orozco, 45, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in death of 42-year-old Maria Del Refugio Soto.

Police said Silerio-Orozco initially told officers that he had seen someone running from his house near 75th Avenue and Crittenden Lane, but he later admitted to investigators that he had stabbed Soto, said Sgt. Vince Lewis, a Phoenix police spokesman.

Police were originally called to the home about 9:30 p.m. Sunday where they found Soto dead, Lewis said.

Neighbors said the woman’s husband and son were home at the time of the stabbing; a daughter moved out several weeks ago.

“If it’s what I think it is — and I hope it’s not what I think it is — then this is very sad news,” said neighbor Yvonne Diaz, 46.

Diaz said that the family is “very sweet” and the woman is going to be missed, adding that, “she was very generous to everyone in the neighborhood.”

Bus Stabbing in Phoenix

Phoenix police identified the suspect Sunday in a weekend stabbing at a bus stop that left the victim in critical condition.

The suspect, Louis York, 41, walked up to officers Saturday morning as they were setting up a perimeter in the area of 37th Avenue and Medlock.

Police said York made some comments that led them to believe he was the suspect, said Phoenix police Sgt. Tommy Thompson.

York was taken into custody without incident.

Thompson said the stabbing occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. at the northbound bus stop north of Camelback Road on 35th Avenue.

Witnesses said York stabbed 30-year-old Matthew Jones for no known reason.

Jones was rushed to the hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen. He is not expected to survive, a court document stated.

Suspect Flees the Scene

The suspect fled the scene, but later approached officers.

There is no known motive other than the suspect indicated he may have mental problems, Thompson said.

Investigators from the Violent Crimes Bureau processed the scene and interviewed the witnesses and suspect.

York told officers he was recently released from a mental health hospital and, prior to his release, informed staff that he would kill someone once he was freed, according to court paperwork.

The suspect told detectives he obtained the knife that morning from a friend’s house and kept it in his waistband for protection because people were following him.

York got on a bus at 15th Avenue and Camelback Road and saw the victim, whom he believed he had seen at a drug house two days before, the court document stated.

Stabbing Suspect

York and Jones got off the bus at 35th Avenue and Camelback Road and waited at the bus stop for a northbound bus.

While waiting, York said the victim looked at him and started to manipulate his waist while two other people appeared suspicious, police said.

York said he removed the knife from his waistband and stabbed the victim once, the court document said. York said the knife got stuck and he cut his hand on the blade.

According to court paperwork, York said he had been smoking and injecting crystal methamphetamine recently and was not taking his medication for paranoia.

Suspect in Phoenix Stabbing

Phoenix police have one suspect in custody and are looking for another after a fatal stabbing near Seventh Avenue and Camelback Road early Monday morning.

Von Richard Mraz, 55, was booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on one count of second-degree murder.

According to the police report, Mraz was sleeping near a building when a 25- to 35-year-old man tried to steal some of his personal property. Mraz told police that he was awakened by the victim going through his pockets and removing a sheathed knife from his pants belt. He said the man fled but left his cellphone at the scene and later returned.

Stabbing Victim

Mraz alerted others sleeping in the area and a fellow transient confronted the man, according to police. The three men ended up in a fight and the alleged robber was stabbed several times.

The injured man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police searched the area and took Mraz into custody.

They are still looking for a suspect described as a white male, 60 to 65 years old, about 5 feet 5 inches tall with long blond hair. He is known to frequent some of the businesses in the area.

The business parking lots in the area were closed off for the investigation.

Suspicious Man Admits to Having Weapons Near Super Bowl Stadium

Man Admits to Having Weapons Near Super Bowl Stadium

The Phoenix Police say that their most recent encounter with Super Bowl security is a great example of “See Something, Say Something”. Sometimes it saves lives, sometimes it just causes worry. But it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Especially with something as major as a super bow with millions of people.

On Tuesday, around nine o’ clock in the morning, one of the parking attendants told the officers that he saw a suspicious man walking near third Street and Washington. Which just happens to be near where the Super Bowl will be happening this year in Downtown Phoenix.

Police Confront Suspicious Man Near Super Bowl Stadium

Police say that they were quickly able to confront the man. He admitted to the police that he had weapons in his vehicle. When the police looked inside, they found a 12-gauge shotgun that was wrapped in a towel and laying on the dash, a handgun that was between the front seats, and a military type knife in plain view. Sounds like this guy definitley wanted to get caught.

The police say that the man was talking “incoherently” when they found him and that he also appeared to be lost and maybe confused. Due to his behavior the officers took him where he could get a mental health evaluation.

The police impounded the vehicle as well as the weapons and the man’s other belongings for safekeeping. The man has not been arrested at this time, so they are not releasing his name. Even though he was rather close to the stadium, he never got near enough (a 12 block area) of where Super Bowl Central is and that, the Super Bowl area is very secure.

Times are getting hard for people. It’s really not safe to travel alone. It’s horrible you can’t even go to the local Walgreens without being attacked by someone. On Wednesday a lady was almost attacked by a man outside of a Walgreens pharmacy. According to the police department, A man had followed a woman to her car and then threatened to handcuff her.

The Walgreens was located close to Greenway and Dysart Roads. The footage from the security camera from the inside of the store showed that the man was walking into the store just a few minutes after the lady did. The man left thirty seconds after she left, according to the police. As the suspect was in the store he asked the store clerk to page someone for him.

Woman Escapes Man Stalking her Outside of Walgreens Pharmacy

The woman then got into her car and immediately locked the doors. She then noticed that the suspect was approaching her. That poor woman must have been terrified! The suspect then began pulling on the passenger door handle trying to get into her car. The man even took out a pair of handcuffs and told the poor scared woman that he would actually put them on her if she did not open the door.  Luckily the woman knew better and quickly just drove away. She immediately called 911. The suspect is being described as a male of the Hispanic or Native American descent. He appeared to be in his late forties. So ladies, becareful out there!

Trial Beginning For Man Who Is Charged With Mailing Bomb

Homemade Bomb Maker Case Goes to Trial

Today a jury selection is starting to begin for the Oklahoma man who allegedly (and was charged with) mailing an inoperable homemade bomb to the Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. Of course, Gregory Lynn Shrader has pleaded not guilty to the “federal charges” against him. Gregory is from Jay, Oklahoma. Doesn’t seem like a sweet Oklahoman could be so cruel as to send a bomb to someone, however it’s really hard to tell who is a criminal these days.
The police investigators found the bomb back in April of 2013. The bomb was at a mail collection box unit located in Flagstaff. The bomb was made of “smokeless powder, wires, a battery, and a pressure-release switch attached to its lid”.

Homemade Bomb is a Dud

Police investigators soon figured out that the homemade bomb was really inoperable. However, there was some black powder inside of the box and that could have exploded or ignited in a flash fire. Thankfully whoever made the bomb didn’t do it well, or perhaps they just wanted to scare Officer Arpaio. Either way, the suspect Gregory is now going to trial for his cruel actions. After their investigation the police were able to disable the dud of a bomb.

Some evidence police have already gathered is that a woman had witnessed and even drove Gregory Shrader to northern Arizona. She saw Gregory place the parcel into the mailbox and he was wearing surgical-type gloves at the time he placed the box inside of the mail.

People get away with a lot of things these days. There’s nothing that you can’t find on the internet or television. This is good for entertainment however it’s not good for the community or the crime rate. With a witness, it doesn’t seem like Mr. Shrader will be getting away with his homemade bomb threat.
